1. Insert Windows Vista DVD and go to repair your computer.
2. Select your OS and hit NEXT
3. Click open Command Prompt
4. You are now on X:\Sources so now we go to the C drive by typing

C:

5. Go to the Windows event log folder by typing

cd C:\Windows\System32\winevt

6. Type

ren Logs Logs_old

7. Type

mkdir Logs

8. Restart your Windows Vista

Normally for a company I would suggest them to have an exact specification for all their computers or printers and what not which would save me a lot of valuable time when doing maintenance. For instance, if PC A is down and needs to be formatted, I would just plug in my Hiren BOOTCD and do commands or simply use Norton Ghost and clone any other well working PC’s hard disk to the problem PC. After that with minimal re-setting everything’s done. Just like that. It normally takes me less than 15 minutes to fix anything. But I’m not only talking about Norton Ghost, Hiren BOOTCD has like tons of useful applications to be used. So today I’ll be featuring Hiren’s BOOTCD – The ultimate All-In-One (AIO) Bootable CD

Hiren’s BootCD is a wonderful live CD containing various programs such as Hard drive recovery, Hard Drive Partition, Hard Drive Backup, Hard Drive Testing, RAM (Memory) Testing, System Information, MBR (Master BootRecord), BIOS, MultiMedia, Password, NTFS (FileSystems), Antivirus, AntiSpy, Process, Windows Startup, Registry tools, Windows Cleaners, Optimizers, Tweakers, and many others… As it is a bootable CD, it can be useful even if the primary operating system cannot be booted.
We may call it as an emergency cd which every computer technician or home user must have.

I recently come across this troublesome situation where I cant access telnet from Command Prompt.

So here’s how it’s done.

• Start > Computer then click ‘Uninstall or change a program’ on the top button bar.
• Click ‘Turn Windows features on or off’ on the left side panel and click ‘Continue’
• Scroll down and tick ‘Telnet Client’ & click ‘OK’

Done. That simple huh?

I have a CPU running on Ubuntu and a Laptop running on Vista. I use my Ubuntu box as a test server for my projects while Vista for my daily use. My monitor is placed on my left side and my laptop on the right.

So basically here’s how my setup would look like:

Left – Ubuntu (no keyboard & mouse)

Right – Vista (with keyboard & mouse)

Left – Ubuntu (Client)
right – Vista (Server)

Setup Synergy on Vista

Download Synergy here and install it.

On Vista run Synergy & configure the server

• Click the Share this computer’s keyboard and mouse (server) radio button
• Click the Screens & Links Configure… button
• Click the + button to add the server to the Screens list
  • Enter the name of server (the computer’s name is the recommended name)
  • Optionally enter other names the server is known by
  • Click OK
• Use the + button to add your other computers
  • Using a computer’s name as its screen name is recommended
  • Choose desired screen options on the Add Screen dialog
• Use the controls under Links to link screens together
  • Click (once) on the server’s name in the Screens list
  • Choose the screen to the left of the server; use — if there is no screen to the left of the server
  • Choose the screens to the right, above and below the server
  • Repeat the above steps for all the other screens
• Click OK to close the Screens & Links dialog
• If the server’s screen name is not the server’s computer name:
  • Click Advanced…
  • Enter the server’s screen name next to Screen Name
  • Click OK

Now click Start, your server is running!

Setup Synergy on Ubuntu

Open up your terminal and type:

sudo apt-get install synergy

Then type:

buy life as we know it

true grit rip

synergy -f ip-address-of-server

Now your client is running. You can move your mouse and see that it is working superbl

Autostart on GNOME

If you want to run your client on autostart, just go to Systems > Preferences > Sessions

Click Add and put the following:

Name: Synergy
Command: synergyc -f ip-address-of-server

Click OK, restart and your DONE!

I’m 100% sure that no one knows what I’m talking about right now but dude that’s the whole point! haha. Let it just be the ones that knows about it knows and keep it to themselves.

The real reason why I’m writing this post is because I want to share with you guys my latest desktop screenshot. Yeap! I’ve finally used Windows Vista and as much as I hate to say this, It’s been doing quite well for me. (ARGH!) Though I hated a few features of Windows Vista, such as the ask permissions to perform tasks. I find it rather annoying. And not to mention that Vista eats a lot of resources but I guess that’s normal. As for compatibility issue for 3rd Party software’s, so far the only problem I had was when I was trying to install Nero 6 and apart from that there seems to be no other problems, yet. So again, as much as I hate (really really hate) to say this, overall I’m impressed (NOOO! smack my head!)

Some of the features that I like on Vista worth mentioning are Vista AERO, the sidebar widget and the medium size icons. AERO is actually somewhat cool. I know that Compiz has more effects and 10 million times cooler than AERO (Compiz rules!), but I think for a Windows operating system that eats resources like a pig, it’s enough for me. I love the sidebar widget simply because I get to see the weather report, nothing more. ahaha! =P Sediakan jacket sebelum hujan you know!

So my conclusion for the whole Vista story is, overall I’m satisfied with it and I would indeed recommended it to any novice users but simply because it’s WAY easier to use than XP. Even though sometimes it’s just straight up annoying and graphically, I still love Linux & Compiz no matter what. hehe!
